TBR Pile Checkpoint #7 – July Progress!
Hi, Hey, & Hello There, all TBR Pile Challengers!
It is July 15th, which means we have crossed the half-way point and are now officially on the downslope for our 2013 TBR Pile Challenge! So far, the overall progress and participation in this year’s challenge has been outstanding! I really have been impressed by you guys – even just reading one or two of your twelve, to this point, is great. Keep at it!
Where I’m At: I have read 9 of my required 12 books. I have made absolutely ZERO progress in the last two months, but I will blame that on my recent relocation, plus reading some chunksters like Don Quixote and The Odyssey, as well as working on events like The Beats of Summer, The read-along of To Kill a Mockingbird, and, of course, the ever-popular and soon-to-be here Austen in August!

Yeah, that’s great – you’re a month ahead! I was so certain that I’d be able to get to all 12 plus my 2 alternates, this year, when I found myself at 9 books in month 5! But, now we’re in month 7 and I’m still at 9 books. Lol.

I’ve completed 7 out of 12, and am about to start Remains of the Day, which will be #8 out of my official TBR Pile Challenge.
I love this challenge. I’ve really enjoyed virtually all of the books I picked to finally read!

That’s awesome! You’re right on schedule. I really need to read The Remains of the Day.. I’ve owned it forever, and I hear good things about it, but I just never seem to be in the mood for it.

I have two this month! I’m now 9/12. One of my other titles is half-finished but I seem to have lost it for the moment…

Yeah! Way to go! I will be reading Emma next month, which will put me at 10 – this is good because the new semester starts mid-August and from there, with my own classes + teaching, my personal reading will slow to a near-halt.

I’m only one book behind, but I am way way behind on actually writing about everything I’ve been reading.

Hah! I continue to find myself about 3 or 4 books behind, reviewing wise, at any given time. I also keep forgetting to review a book that I completed for another challenge months ago… I’ll go back and view the challenge list for reading ideas, remember that I read one of the books but haven’t reivewed it, then forget about it all over again.

I’ve read 13 out of 15 on my list (including the three alternates), and the remaining two are books one and two of a six-part series. The “bad” news for me is that Kobo, my preferred ebook dealer, is now allowing promo codes on Penguin Group books, so I’ll probably be moving several books from my “to buy” list over to “to read” soon. (It’s bad news for my wallet and my stats, anyway…)

I’ve tried to read Orlando before, it just didn’t get into my head like Mrs Dalloway did, maybe because I was probably expecting something similar.
I really want to read The End of the Affair, but it’s still sitting on my to-buy list for now.

I haven’t read Mrs. Dalloway yet, but I look forward to it. I loved A Room of One’s Own and, of course, Orlando. But I hated To the Lighthouse – that was actually my first experience with Woolf, and it almost put me off of her forever. It was 6 years before I tried another Woolf book, after reading Lighthouse! So glad I did, though.

Last year I joined a TBR pile challenge and failed miserably. This year I decided not to join any challenges so I wouldn’t fail miserably.
I’ve read 16 books from my TBR pile so far this year.
Go figure.

I’ve finished six of the books from my list of twelve, and I still have one to review, but I’ve also read one of my alternates, so I consider myself halfway there!! I’ve also been pretty good about reading 50% books from my own TBR shelves. Now if I could just stop buying more books. . .

Yep, those alternates count – so you’re right on track! Buying books is a problem for me, too. I just moved this last weekend, and moving all the books was such a chore/nightmare. I really might have to start culling my collection, for now. Until I’m settled in a house that I know I’ll be in for years. I might have to consider getting a Kindle or something, until then…which is something I never thought I’d do. But moving around 3,000 books every few years? Really not fun.

I did 6 books of my list, and the 7th book is waiting for me. I am on schedule, but only just!

I’m a bit behind on my list. I’ve read five of twelve, which puts me two behind my goal of one a month. I’m working on book number six right now, but it’s a lot more tedious than I anticipated.

I’ve been pretty consistent at reading one from my list per month but I did hit a bit of a stumbling block by deciding to abandon one and discovering that I have somehow lost another! So that’s my two reserves called in already. Here’s hoping there’s no more duds on the list!
