Austen in August Master Post (#AustenInAugustRBR)
Welcome to the Master Post for our 2nd Annual Austen In August event! This is a one-month event focused on all things Jane Austen, including her primary texts, any re-imaginings of her works, biographies, critical texts, etc. In late June, I announced sign-ups for the event, and was very surprised by the overwhelming response from all different types of readers & bloggers! I know many of you, like me, have been anxious to get started – so thank you all for your interest, for signing-up, and for spreading the word.
I have a lot of things planned for this month-including giveaways, guest posts, and, of course, my own reading and reviewing of Jane Austen works. First, let’s talk logistics.
At the bottom of this post is a “Mister Linky” widget. Whenever you review a book or write a post related to the event, please link it on this master post. Please include the title or subject of whatever your post is AND your blog name in the “Name” section of the link. It should look something like:
“Review of Emma (Roof Beam Reader).”
This will ensure that all the links are in a similar format, and that others will know what your post is about before they click on it. I will make sure that the button on the left-side of my blog will take you to this post. Please make sure to only link-up your posts on this main list!
Whenever you link a post, you will become eligible to win the giveaways that I will be hosting here throughout the month. The only way to be entered for these prizes is to make sure your posts are linked-up here (this includes reviews of the books you’ve read, commentary on Austen topics, giveaways, or any other posts directly related to this event).
There are also going to be quite a few giveaways hosted by participants of the event (thank you for your generosity!). Specific details for each of these giveaways may be different, so be sure to read the rules on those giveaway posts carefully and enter if you are interested! For any of the giveaways, here or at other participants’ blogs, you will need to be pre-registered (by August 3rd) for this event in order to win.

Lucky you – Persuasion is my all time favourite Austen.
I’m going to tackle my least favourite for this month though – Mansfield Park – and hope to find some love during the rereading!

I have A LOT of respect for Mansfield Park, but not much love. I think it’s her most important work, but it’s not the most enjoyable read.

{I am never entirely sure which is favoured, though I personally refer to myself as a Janeite!}
I posted the link for my Intro Post for *Austen in August*, as I am a week behind starting my reading list!! This post includes the Books As I Read them, and the ones that I sorted out that I wanted to attempt this month to read! I am going to bookend this reading challenge to *Bout of Books*; thereby, focusing on Austen this week, skipping next week, and concluding the month with Austen!! 🙂 🙂 I am entering Chapter Four of “Pride and Prejudice” tonight, and hope to be further along my list by the close of the weekend! The wicked sweet part, is that my edition of Pride, is the little pocket edition I picked up at B&N!! I love turning the pages!!

I had more delays than I ever thought possible, and I am sorry this is posting so very late indeed! I gave a proper shout-out to the Austen in August event, because it truly helped steer me on a course to read Austen this year, and for that, I will forever be grateful! I appreciated all the hard work you put into the event, and I only regret that I couldn’t pull together more posts to help celebrate it! I look forward to earmarking this event for 2014, and be in a better position to participate in full! I will not be doing *2!* reading challenges in one month, as I did learn my lesson on that error!!

So I have a question for everyone. Last night I watched the movie “Becoming Jane” and it got my intrigued into Jane Austen’s life. However I am incredibly overwhelmed with the amount of books connected to her when looking online. Can anyone recommend some good biographies to read about Jane? I would greatly, greatly appreciate it!
