Hello, TBR Pile Challengers!
Here we are, in the middle of October. Suddenly, the days seem to be barreling down on us, with time quickly running out for this little challenge of ours. If you’re like me, you have a lot of reading left to do before the year’s end. Question of the Month: Since this is October, do you have any spooky/scary/creepy books on your TBR Pile Challenge list?
My Progress: 7 of 12 Completed / 5 of 12 Reviewed
I’ve now managed to read 7 of my books and am currently reading number 8. I’ve reviewed 5 so far (just need to get my thoughts down on Pudd’nhead Wilson and Good Without God! Progress from last month, then, isn’t great, but it is still progress!
My completed reads:

- Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (2011) (Completed 01/25/18)
- The Courage to Teach by Parker J. Palmer (Completed 03/10/18)
- The White Album by Joan Didion (Completed 08/04/18)
- Pudd’nhead Wilson by Mark Twain (Completed – Review to Come)
- Good without God by Greg M. Epstein (Completed – Review to Come)
- The House of the Vampire by George Sylvester Viereck (Currently Reading)

Yes, one creepy-ish book, They Shall See God. I finished that one and added the review at the end of September.
I’m reading As I Lay Dying now, and that one is at least a little grotesque and “deathly” so I guess that counts too. Hoping to finish that one in a few days and get my thoughts up on the blog/Linky soon! (This one is going much faster than I thought it would and I am super glad about that because I’ve been concerned about finishing my goal with other reading I have to do as well.)

Oh, As I Lay Dying is excellent! Very much Faulkner, but as you say, a bit quicker and more accessible.

I’ve been doing the RIP challenge and read Slade House by David Mitchell, Twilight by William Gay and Such Small Hands by Andres Barba.

I read Slade House last year and found it very creepy. I have The Bone Clocks on my list for this year.

I have two books that would qualify, Carrie by Stephen King and The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell. I finished Carrie earlier this year, and hopefully will get around to the other one. I’m participating in the RIP Challenge and am excited to read Pet Sematary! Currently, I stand at 8 reviews with another one coming soon. Congrats to Barbara!

Prompted by RIP XIII, I read Jeanette Winterson’s The Daylight Gate from my TBR Pile list – a review is scheduled to go up later this week, which will make 3 out of 12. I started Shadows over Baker Street (also from my TBR Pile List). Now, if I could just remember to link up the reviews! 🙂

Sadly, no creepy reads left on my TBR pile challenge list — only one left from the original 12 that is really long, but that’s scary in a different way! (The Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter). I also finished one last month from the alternates, so I guess I’m technically done, but I still want to try and finish the short story collection and my other alternate. I’m already thinking about next year, I’ll have to try and include a creepy read for the fall.

Nothing creepy from me either I’m afraid, but one more to go and then I’ve read 12! I read the two alternates so might try the original 2 again. Next year I’ll include a creepy read!!

I’m sorry I’ve left a link to my latest review and have gone and done it twice – why do I keep doing this?! I don’t know how to delete it and it looks as if I’m hogging all the space – is there a way to delete?

I was so excited to learn that I won the mini-challenge! Thank you for hosting it! The only thing on my list that came close to spooky or creepy or scary was The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I don’t do scary too often because that scared feeling stays with me after the book is closed.

I’ve got NOS4A2 by Joe Hill on my list, which is definitely horror, though I don’t think I’ll get to it this month. I might start The Fifth Season though, which I think is dystopia, so that might count.
I finished up Catherine the Great by Robert Massie at the beginning of the month, and I loved it but I’m also hesitant to start anything else that is long.
