I wonder if you might take a moment to leave a comment this month and share your favorite book from this year’s challenge? If you’ve completed your list or made a lot of progress, share that too! We’d love to cheer you on and feel motivated too, especially those of us (cough cough) who have been stuck for a little bit.
Speaking of stuck, as summer here in the world’s hottest region begins to come to an end, I will begin to find myself more often outdoors. That usually means a rapid slowing-down of my reading progress. This is a little problematic because I’ve already had two months in a row with now challenge list progress! Teaching two literature courses plus composition courses tends to whittle away at any of my free time, but especially free/pleasure reading, because I need to read so much material for lectures, reviews, and of course I need to read student work, too. All of that is to say… I swear, it’s not my fault! (Ha ha – are you convinced?)

My progress is exactly what it was. Even my overall reading has been slowing down, as I focus on more in-depth readings of course works + grading student papers, etc. That said, I have been reading some comic books (House of X / Powers of X) and read an absolutely stunning book called Ziggy, Stardust & Me that I’ll need to review soon, or re-read again. Maybe both. I’m also about to finish Living Buddha, Living Christ, and I hope to put some thoughts together for that one as well. Now that we are headed into the fourth week of the academic term, I hope I’ve adapted well enough to my work schedule in order to get back to an effective reading/writing and leisure schedule as well. But enough about me.

Nice to read your post and learn of your progress! I’m actually on track with my reading (8 of my challenge books so far) but way, way behind on the reviews! Hopefully I’ll get to posting my thoughts in the next couple of months, so i can say current with the challenge. Regardless, it’s been a lot of fun and has actually gotten me to read several things I otherwise wouldn’t have.

I’ve finished 12 books total (one alternate)–so technically done. But I plan to finish all 14 by the end of the year. My favorite so far: The Man Born to be King by Dorothy L. Sayers. As I say at the end of my review, “I have yet to read any of Sayers’ work that has not been thoughtful, interesting, and–where needed–well-researched. She infuses her serious writing with wit and humor while never losing sight of the serious issues involved. “

I am looking forward to the book; thank you! I am up to 7/12 but am slowing down due to just having started graduate school at night. It is much more time consuming than I had remembered!

I can relate! I purchased a house, and the past few months have been crazy with everything surrounding that, so I haven’t made much progress. I’ve read four, reviewed 3, and am partway through two others…there is a chance I will finish as I have a few shorter books to get through still, but it’s not looking promising! So far, my favourite is definitely Flipped by Wendelin van Draanen. It was just as lovely as I had hoped!

I’ve read 13 of the 14! I always have trouble narrowing books in any category down to just one. I enjoyed several good books through this challenge, but probably at the top of the list were The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett (which somehow I had missed all these years) and Annabel Lee by Mike Nappa (surprising because scary, edge of your seat stories aren’t my usual go-to books). My last one is On Writing Well by William Zinsser, which will probably take me a while–not because it’s long or hard, but I am thinking I’ll get the most out of it by taking it in small bits.

I have made no progress in the past month, but I am at 9/12 so it’s not too bad. It’s hard to pick a favorite because several of my titles have been great! I loved Trollope’s “The Claverings,” I had a ton of fun with “Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore,” and both “Undine” and “Kappa” were strange.

I’m just about to post about my ninth book on this challenge – Powder by Kevin Sampson. My favourite book so far is probably The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury or maybe Decline and Fall by Evelyn Waugh. For both, I couldn’t believe I’d left it so long to read them.

It’s too hard to pick a favorite book of the ones I read so far, lol. I probably should have waited till the Oct. checkpoint, but wanted to let you know I messed up my Oct. link, DOH! I didn’t post the book title, Bran New Death. Not sure if there’s any way you can delete it or fix it, just wanted to let you know the title. Thanks!
