My name is Adam and I’ve been blogging about books since 2008. I’m a writer, a reader, and a teacher.
My main interests are the classics (American and British) as well as LGBTQI+ literature, so you might see a lot of that here, but I’m a pretty eclectic reader. At the time of writing this “about me” section, for example, I’m reading: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry; The Complete Edgar Allan Poe; X-Men: Surge; and The Stoics (so, that’s science, classics, pop science-fiction, and Greek philosophy — See, you’ll find it all, here!)
Some additional interests are literary history, philosophy, and creative writing. To get to know my reading inspirations a bit better, you can check out My Personal Canon (which I plan to update once every year or two).
“Where did the name ‘Roof Beam Reader’ come from?”
Great question! The motivation behind my blog (and Twitter) name comes from one of my biggest literary inspirations: J.D. Salinger. One of my favorite of his works is a novella titled, Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters. Thus, the “Roof Beam” aspect of my blog name. Reader is pretty self-explanatory – I love to read!
