Classics Club Spin 26

The Classics Club Spin is back for the 26th time. Despite my near-constant failure with this challenge (I think I’ve “won” once or twice?), I’m going to try again. I’ve been on a reading hot streak and have been gravitating back towards literary works, lately, so maybe now is the time. Or maybe not.

I’ve linked to the Spin page here, but simply put, I list here 20 books from my Classics Club list (see the full list below) that I’m willing to read depending on where the “Spin” randomizer falls. The magic number will be revealed this Sunday, April 18th. I’ll then know which book I’m supposed to read by May 31st. Okay? Okay!

    I always like it when somebody gets something I know nothing about, so I’m rooting for the Tsiang or the Garcia Villa.

    • I have one in mind that I’m really hoping for, but I stay quiet so as not to tempt the wheel masters! I do want to read both the Tsiang and Garcia Villa soon, though. I teach Southeast Asian Literature, so I try to read new (to me) materials in that field every year.

  2. Looks like you and I are tied on completing the spin books. lol I’ve only succeeded twice. Years ago with Wide Sargasso Sea and with the last spin, John Gardner’s On Becoming a Novelist. I’m excited to see what we get! Good luck!
    You have a very diverse list. I saw Dead Souls by Nikolay Gogol on there. I recently bought that one on Kindle. There’s a series on Amazon with Gogol as the main character. Foreign and really good. Of course, it has a supernatural slant. The actor who portrays him is dreamy. The show is titled, appropriately, “Gogol.” 🙂
    I’m currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo and really enjoying it.

    • Ooh a dreamy Gogol! I loved Wide Sargasso Sea. I had been looking forward to Count of Monte Cristo but was so underwhelmed by Three Musketeers.

  5. My spin attempts are hit or miss too. Although I’ve read more than I’ve posted about, so I suppose that’s a win in a way. But sometimes it’s nice to have someone else pick my next read! North and South is a favorite and I enjoyed The Valley of Fear. I’m not familiar with too many of the others, although I see some I want to read. Even if you don’t get your first choice, I hope it’s something you enjoy!

    • I realized in reviewing my list yesterday that I, too, completed some I never wrote about. Oops! And my 5 years is up this year… might have to extend or start over.

  9. I always get a little misty-eyed at Rubyfruit Jungle. Such a classic in Lesbian literature and an important one for me. You’ve got lots of terrific titles there, I wish you well in this attempt!

    I’m pretty good with my Spin success. I usually finish…even if it’s two months later🤭😁
